3rd Anniversary of Model Town tragedy: Institutions helpless, victim of expediency: Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri

PAT Chairman Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri has said that we are observing the third anniversary of the Model Town tragedy today. He said that despite passage of three years, justice has not been dispensed in the Model Town case. He asked as to why the institutions are helpless and victim of expediency. He said that the blood-soaked faces of the martyrs and stone-hearted faces of the perpetrators are still in front of our eyes. He said that we would continue to fight for justice in the form of Qisas. He said that the names and addresses of the perpetrators of the Model Town tragedy are listed in the Justice Najfi Commission report. He said that instead of releasing the report compiled by the senior judge, it has been consigned to the dustbin. He asked, ‘does the law turn its face away when the perpetrators happen to be powerful in an independent state?’ He said that those making a noise of revenge in the name of accountability event went to the extent of snatching from the heirs of the martyrs of Model Town their constitutional right of registration of FIR. He said that the announcement of the second round of the Qisas movement can be made anytime. He said that it now depends on institutions as to what role they play in ensuring dispensation of justice. He said that former Army Chief Gen Raheel Sharif got the FIR registered with the promise of dispensation of justice but he did not fulfill his commitment.

Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri expressed these views while addressing the members of the central Core Committee of PAT here in Lahore. Quran Khawani will be done from 3 pm to 5 pm on June 17 at the Itikaf City for the departed souls of the martyrs of Model Town.

Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri said that we are fighting the legal battle with the support of the best legal team. He said that we are in the Lahore High Court with the prayers for release of the Justice Najfi Commission report and summoning of the Sharif brothers. He said that we are in the antiterrorism court to get the police officers punished for their role in the massacre.

The PAT Chairman said that the Justice Baqir Najfi Commission report should be released immediately and made part of the public complaint. He said that arrest warrants of those who ordered the firing on innocent citizens should be issued. He said that we are fighting alone for the cause of justice. He said that we are not being given justice because the powerful lot, who are rightly termed as godfathers are arrayed against us. He said that they are filthy rich people and can pitch the price of other’s liking. He said that he paid homage to the brave families of the martyrs who rejected the offers of millions of rupees by the perpetrators for not standing witness in the Model Town case. He said that the heirs of the martyrs not only gave evidence but also stand put. He asked as to why no action is being taken despite submission of audio, video proofs and evidences? He asked what more proofs are required.

Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri said that peace is our weakness, and we are knocking on the gates of the courts. He said that outdated legal structure of justice is being dictated by the delaying tactics with reference to the Model Town case as thousands of others. He asked the state to tell what crime did those commit who were martyred mercilessly in Model Town on June 17?
