The highlights of Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri’s Milad speech

A grand and mammoth International Milad Ceremony was held at the historic Minar-e-Pakistan under the banner of Minhaj-ul-Quran International. Shaykh-ul-Islam Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri delivered his keynote address. In addition to renowned personalities belonging to various walks of life including the interfaith leaders, hundreds of thousands of people attended the conference.

• The topic for tonight’s speech is “love for the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)” – a topic which will strengthen your love for him.


• Had the audience here tonight been devoid of love for the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), they would not have sat tight in biting cold under the open the sky all night.


• Audience sit before me for hours, days and even months in winter or summer. They, however, always assemble in love of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), not for my sake.


• Devotion to a certain object sets priorities in the heart of the lover.


• Since the creation of humans, two types of emotions have been struggling in their hearts: a very strong feeling of love for God and a violent passion for the world.


• When one cultivates deep love for the world, one gives it preference to the Hereafter. But the love of this world is a mirage, which can never become a reality.


• Having an affection for wife and children and trade is legal when it is within limits; if a penchant for them crosses limits, it contravenes the divine law.


• A true devotee of God, the Prophet Ibrahim was to be catapulted into a raging fire, but he did not seek to avert the divine command, as he knew well He was putting him to the test.


• When Majnun fell in love with Layla, he highly prized things related to her person with all his heart. In a similar vein, a big fan of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) loves him, his Companions, kinsfolk, house, pearls of wisdom and all the objects associated with him.


• On one occasion a man expressed his love for the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) and reiterated it. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) then told him that if he was a sincere lover, then he should gear up for straitened circumstances.


• A Companion visited the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) wearing a goatskin. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) told his followers that he had seen the youth before entering the fold of Islam when he used to live a very lavish lifestyle. Now, due to his love for Islam, this was his state.


• Once a Companion fell into the hands of idolaters. When they were about to put him to sword, they asked him if he would like to have the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) executed so that he might escape with his life. In answer, the man said he would not like to see the feet of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) pricked in return for life.


• Before departing this life, Ubayy b. Ka'b said that if the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) was harmed while even a single Companion survived, they would have no bona fide excuse in the presence of the Almighty.


• Once a Companion said that when he would enter the Garden of Paradise, he would not be able to behold the visage of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). Allah sent a verse to proclaim that the one who loves the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) will be in his company on the Day of Resurrection.


• The love for the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) will be reciprocated in the grave. A lover will enjoy the company and recognition of the beloved after his decease.


• The associates of the Apostle (peace and blessings be upon him) frequently demonstrated their love for him.


• So that they might guard themselves against the chastisement of the Fire, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) educated the Companions on fostering a liking for his person.


• The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said that towards the end of the days of the world faith will be safe in Medina alone. By this, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) conveyed to his followers that their belief will be secure only when they inculcate a fondness for him.


• The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) directed his Companions to instill three types of love in the hearts of their children: love for the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), love for his family and love for the recitation of the Qur’an.
