Love for the Ahl al-Bayt (Alayhimus-salam) is a virtue, and hatred towards them is a sin: Dr. Hassan Mohi-ud-Din Qadri

Dr Hassan Mohi ud Din Qadri

Dr. Hassan Mohi-ud-Din Qadri, Chairman of the Supreme Council of Minhaj-ul-Quran International, has said that the love and affection for the Ahl al-Bayt (Alayhimus-salam) is such a virtuous act that its reward will be multiplied on the Day of Judgment. Allah Almighty says in Surah Ash-Shura, "And whoever earns a good deed, We will increase for him good therein in the Hereafter." Someone asked Imam Hasan ibn Ali (Alayhis-salam) which good deed is mentioned in this verse. He (Alayhis-salam) replied that it refers to the love and affection for us, the Ahl al-Bayt.

Dr. Hassan Mohi-ud-Din Qadri said that it is narrated from Abdullah ibn Abbas (RA) that the Holy Prophet (PBUH) said that if a person stands on one leg and worships between the Black Stone and the Maqam Ibrahim for his entire life, but at the time of his death, he has hatred for Bani Hashim, i.e., the family of Muhammad (PBUH), in his heart, Allah Almighty will nullify all his lifelong good deeds and the time spent between the Maqam Ibrahim and the Black Stone, and will throw him face down into the fire of Hell.

According to the eminent interpreters, the good deed mentioned in Surah Ash-Shura, which will be increased in reward, refers to the love for the Ahl al-Bayt. Imam Qurtubi, in his tafsir, quotes Abdullah ibn Abbas (RA) saying that when asked about a good deed mentioned in the Quran that will have its reward multiplied in the Hereafter, he (RA) replied that it is the love for the family of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Those who are filled with the love for the Ahl al-Bayt will have tenfold rewards for every good deed.

Chairman Supreme Council said that Imam Thalabi narrates an incident where Hazrat Ali (Alayhis-salam) called Hazrat Abdullah Al-Huzali to his presence and said, "O Abdullah, do you want me to tell you a strange and wondrous thing? A person will come on the Day of Judgment with a good deed that will admit him to Paradise without any questioning, and another person will come with an evil deed that will throw him into Hell. Upon being asked to elaborate, he (Alayhis-salam) said, 'That good deed is our love, and that evil deed is our hatred.'"

Dr. Hassan Mohi-ud-Din Qadri prayed that Allah Almighty bestows us with the love and affection for the Ahl al-Bayt (Alayhimus-salam), and that we breathe our last with this love in our hearts. May Allah, due to this virtuous act, forgive our sins and grant us salvation.
