Punjab Governor launches MYL’s tree plantation campaign
The nationwide tree plantation campaign, organized by Minhaj Youth League in connection with the Independence Month (August), was inaugurated by the Governor of Punjab, Sardar Saleem Haider Khan, who planted a sapling.
Punjab Governor planted the sapling at the central secretariat of Minhaj-ul-Quran.
Upon his arrival at the secretariat, the Governor of Punjab laid a wreath at the memorial of the martyrs of Model Town and offered prayers for the elevation of their ranks. He was welcomed by Khurram Nawaz Gandapur, the Secretary General of Minhaj-ul-Quran International, Rana Waheed Shehzad, the President of Minhaj Youth League, Dr. Imran Younas, Secretary General, Brigadier (R) Iqbal Ahmed Khan, Engineer Rafiq Najam, Jawwad Hamid, Sardar Umar Daraz Khan, business leader Babar Butt, Shehzad Rasool, Haji Ishaq, Abdul Hafeez Chaudhry, and other leaders. Accompanying the Governor of Punjab was Barrister Amir Hassan, a leader of the Pakistan People's Party.
Speaking to the media on this occasion, the Governor of Punjab said that Pakistan is at the forefront of countries affected by climate change. Pollution caused by major industrial countries is affecting us, and while this issue is raised on global forums, to mitigate the harmful effects of climate change, we must plant more trees, grow forests, and protect them.
The Governor congratulated Minhaj Youth League (MYL) for initiating the tree plantation campaign and assured them of full support. He also urged other youth organizations to actively participate in the tree plantation campaign, emphasizing that this is a matter concerning the health of 250 million people and the secure future of the country. He stated that there is a need to further improve the official measures and arrangements to prevent the illegal cutting of forests.
The Governor also paid tribute to Shaykh-ul-Islam Dr. Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri, the founder and patron of Minhaj-ul-Quran International, calling him a distinguished scholarly figure and a pride of Pakistan. He mentioned that the late Benazir Bhutto was an admirer of his knowledge and stature and was a life member of Minhaj-ul-Quran. He said that our sentiments reflect those of our leadership. He expressed his happiness at visiting Minhaj-ul-Quran.
In response to a question, he stated that the heirs of the martyrs of Model Town should be given justice, as delayed justice is justice denied.
Khurram Nawaz Gandapur, Secretary General of Minhaj-ul-Quran, invited the Governor of Punjab to attend the International Mawlid Conference to be held at Minar-e-Pakistan on the night of 11th and 12th Rabi' al-Awwal. The Governor of Punjab offered the Maghrib prayer at Gosha-e-Durood and met with the leaders. Dr. Sajid Mahmood Shehzad, Vice-Chancellor of Minhaj University Lahore, and Dr. Khurram Shehzad, Registrar, also met with the Governor and invited him to visit the university.
