More than 140,000 Dead	Tens of thousands injured	Millions displaced

More than 140,000 people across Asia have been killed after one of the most powerful earthquakes on record, in Indonesia, triggered massive tidal waves that slammed into coastlines in Sri Lanka, Indonesia, India, Thailand and Malaysia. Tourists, fishermen, hotels, homes and cars were swept away by walls of water unleashed by the 8.9-magnitude earthquake. Waves as high as 30 feet crashed into coastal areas throughout the Indian Ocean and Andaman Sea.

Sri Lanka: Over 27,000 dead

Indonesia: Over 79,940 dead

India: Over 12,500 dead

Thailand: Over 2,394 dead

Somalia: 120 dead

Malaysia: 65 dead

Maldives: 67 dead

Burma: 90 dead

Bangladesh: 2 dead

Kenya: 1 dead

Seychelles: 3 dead

Tanzania: 10 dead

Foreigners (mostly Europeans):

Confirmed dead: 710

Missing: nearly 5000

Hundreds of thousands of people have no roof over their heads and are lacking every day basic requirements including food, water, clothes, medicine, blankets etc. Dead bodies need to be cleared in order to prevent the spread of disease. Accommodation must be arranged for those who have been made permanently homeless.

Minhaj Welfare Foundation UK has started to send Emergency Relief Aid to the devastated areas. The scale of the disaster is so huge and complex to manage because it has affected 12 countries in total.
