MWL's Humanitarian Pursuits (Food Gifts for Hospital Patients on Eid ul Adh’aa 2007)
By the Grace of Almighty Allah and the blessings of the Holy Prophet (s.a.w), Minhaj-ul-Qur’an Women League, Lahore, Pakistan brought a smile to the faces of many patients who were hospitalized over the Eid Period, by distributing much needed food to them. There is no welfare system in Pakistan, so any person who is admitted into hospital, not only has to pay for the entire treatment and stay during that period, but also make their own arrangements for food. This can become quite burdensome upon poorer families, thus the Women League initiative was welcomed warmly.
The Holy Prophet (s.a.w) has laid down the moral and ethical principles that govern any society and in particular stated that it is important to feed a hungry person, enquire about a sick person and help a person seek his release from prison. (Al-Bukhari, as-Sahih 2:809#5058)
Since Minhaj-ul-Qur’an Women league is working on many other projects all over the world, it is sometimes possible to forget those people in need who are unable to celebrate their Eids happily. Thus the distribution of food in Government Hospitals was an idea, not just to literally provide food, but on the occasion of Eid ul Adh’aa to meet the sick people admitted, enquire about their suffering and in general make them feel that they are not alone on this occasion of happiness.
This activity was conducted in conjunction with the Minhaj Welfare Foundation and is an annual activity which is undertaken in the big hospitals of Lahore where thousands of patients are served food. This year, the Minhaj ul Qur’an Women League visited the following places.
Â
- General Hospital Lahore
- Mayo Hospital Lahore
- Jinnah Hospital Lahore
- Children Hospital LahoreÂ
- Social welfare trust
- Different old and women homes.
The Committee consisted of the following persons:
- Mrs. Fatima Mash’hadi             Head
- Shazia Shaheen                        Co-Head
- Rabia Urooj Malik                      Secretary
- Kishwar Shaheen                     Co-Manager
A team on behalf of the Minhaj Welfare Foundation consisted of brothers studying at The Minhaj University, who devoted their Eid to make this activity successful. They acted upon a beautiful Hadith of the Holy Prophet (s.a.w) regarding the need for akhuaa (brotherhood) where he stated:
“You will see the believers in their mutual kindness, love and sympathy just like one body. When a limb complains the whole body responds to it with wakefulness and fervor.” (Agreed upon).
Food was cooked under the supervision of the Women league team, boxes were packed and each member of the team helped with all of the more menial tasks!
The hospitals contained hundreds of patients so the teams systematically visited each and every patient present in the hospital, gave food to them and enquired after their health. The patients were overjoyed to see the Minhaj Team as were the senior staff, doctors and nurses. Many of the heads of the hospitals visited the wards and praised the hard endeavors of Shaykh-ul-Islam Dr. Mohammad Tahir ul Qadri. They appreciated the work that he has done for the revival of Islam describing him as a guiding light for Muslims. The doctors and heads of the hospitals and trusts were presented gifts of Shaykh ul Islam’s books and lectures.
May Allah Almighty give us power to make this world peaceful and a model of brotherhood. Ameen Baja hay Sayyad ul Mursaleen (Sallala ho Alaihi Wasslam)
