Efforts underway to dump Model Town case: PAT lawyers

Talking to media men outside the anti-terrorism court after hearing of the Model Town case there, PAT lawyers, Rai Bashir Ahmad Advocate, Naeem-ud-Din Chaudhry Advocate and Mirza Naveed Baig Advocate have said that efforts are being made to bury the Model Town case instead of providing justice to the heirs of the martyrs. He said that enough hints are being given through uniform treatment to the oppressors and the oppressed that the verdict of the case will be given without identifying the killers before April 2, 2016.

Speaking on the occasion, Naeem-ud-Din Chaudhry Advocate said that at times, one wishes to do one thing in one’s way but the Will of God is different. It is pertinent to mention here that former DIG Operations and central character in the Model Town tragedy, Rana Abdul Jabbar, stated on oath that two shot machine guns and 30 pistols were retrieved from the MQI workers on June 17, 2014.

Responding to this statement of the former DIG, PAT Secretary General Khurram Nawaz Gandapur said that those telling lies under oath will not be able to escape divine wrath. He said had the MQI workers had any weapons, fourteen members of the attacking party would have died. He said what kind of machine guns and pistols these were that not even a single police official was injured in an operation that continued for 12 hours. He said that by choosing not to give statement against the police officials arrested for firing, Rana Abdul Jabbar proved that police arrested the junior officials in order to throw dust in the eyes of people in the Model Town case and he did not utter even a single word against them in an attempt to give them clean-chit.

Khurram Nawaz Gandapur said that those who sold their conscience for promotion and money will be held accountable for their actions in the court of Allah Almighty and blood of 14 people will not go in vain.

Kashif Iqbal, Asif Iqbal, Zafar Iqbal, sons of Sufi Iqbal, and Bisma Amjad, daughter of Shaheed Tanzila Amjad have raised a question to the Chief Justice of Pakistan, Army Chief and the Presidents of Supreme Court and Lahore Bar Associations asking under which crime were their parents killed and when they will be provided justice. They asked whether the Constitution of Pakistan does not guarantee the provision of the justice; are we not citizens of Pakistan; is there justice only for the rich and the powerful sitting in legislatures? They said that our brothers and sisters tried to peacefully stop those who launched an attack on the central secretariat of MQI and residence of their leader Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri. In response, the police showered bullets and killed 14 people besides injuring 85. They said unless killers of our near and dear ones meet their end under the law, we will not rest peacefully.
