Deeply grieved over Mardan incident: Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri

PAT Chairman Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri has expressed his deep sense of grief and sorrow on the heart-rending incident with Mashal Khan, student of Khan Abdul Wali Khan University in Mardan. He said that if violent and extremist thinking was not eliminated from the educational institutions, the struggle for establishment of durable peace and a harmonious and tolerant society will not be able to succeed. He said that such incidents bring Pakistan and Islam into disrepute worldwide. He said that he was deeply grieved to learn about the violent death of the student in a lynching incident in the University.

Dr Qadri expressed these views while talking to the office bearers of MSM on the telephone yesterday. He collected information of the sad incident and said that Islam and the Constitution of Pakistan do not allow anyone to set up their own court and pass judgment. He said that if there was something objectionable, it should have been reported to the concerned authorities immediately. He said that there is a dire need of educating the students and youth to get rid of the violent and extremist thinking in the educational institutions. He underlined the need of enforcing the peace curriculum to promote positive thinking, adding that in the absence of such an enlightened discourse, the misguided elements are taking law in their own hands.
