7-day Sports Week held under MUL concludes
A seven-day sports week held under the banner of Minhaj University Lahore came to an end. The event was attended by over 100 male and female students. 12 female cricket teams took part in the sporting events. Former cricketing greats, Abdul Qadir, Abdul Razzaq and Sana Mir, former captain of Pakistan Women Cricket Team gave away the prizes and shields to the winning team and the best performing cricketers. The students took part in overall 48 sports with football, volleyball, badminton, baseball, lawn tennis, karate and athletics to name only a few.
Dr Hussain Mohi-ud-Din Qadri, the vice chairman of the Board of Governors of MUL, thanked the guests for their time and congratulated the winning teams. Speaking on the occasion, he said that the educational institutions should patronize the sports and other cultural activities for promotion of peace, tolerance, moderation in the society and character building of the students. He said that the sports continue to play a central place in the education and training of the students at the Minhaj University Lahore. He said that the state of the art playgrounds have been provided to the students. He said that the university is paying its undivided attention to foster and promote latent talent among the students. He said that the satisfactory educational results cannot be achieved by divorcing the sports from education.
Addressing the concluding ceremony, national hero, Abdul Qadir, said that MQI in general and Minhaj University in particular are playing their active role in educating the masses and providing quality contemporary education to the students. He said that he was pleased to see students show their excellent sporting skills. He said that MUL is doing an amazing work for promotion of sports in the country. He congratulated Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri, Dr Hussain Mohi-ud-Din Qadri and the staff of the University.
Former all-rounder Abdul Razzaq said on the occasion that he was thrilled to see the passion and keen interest of the male and female students in the sporting activities. He said that he was sure that the students and the youth have amazing talent to excel in the sporting arenas in the world provided they are given necessary training and guidance. He said that the universities should focus on cricket in order to produce the quality players who revive the lure and excellence of Pakistan cricket.
Former captain of Pakistan Women Cricket team Sana Mir expressed her pleasure and satisfaction on the 12 female teams taking part in the cricketing competitions. She said that in addition to education, the girls are taking active part in the sports, which is encouraging. She offered her services for coaching the female students as and when they needed it.
Vice Chancellor MUL Dr Muhammad Aslam Ghouri, Col (r ) Muhammad Ahmad, Col (r ) Mubashar, Iqbal Murtaza, Dr Mumtaz Azmi, Miss Rabia, Madam Samreen, Nasir Iqbal Advocate, Rana Tanvir, Shahzad Rasool, Abdul Hafeez Ch, Saqib Bhatti, Shakeel Tahir, and Hasnain Javed attended the ceremony. Dr Hussain Mohi-ud-Din Qadri congratulated the Director Sports and his team on holding excellent sporting events spread over seven days.
