Sectarianism biggest enemy of unity among Muslims: Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri

PAT Chairman and the founding leader of the Minhaj-ul-Quran International (MQI) Shaykh-ul-Islam Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri has asked the religious scholars and Mashaykh to keep their attention focused on the reform of society and promotion of moral, religious and spiritual values. They should focus on the moral training and character building of the youth. He said that the religious scholars should bring about innovation in their approach, learning and preaching, and expand the scope of their study so that they are able to engage with the youth on their mental wavelength. He said that in addition to promotion of knowledge, Pakistan will have to be made hub of peace in order to achieve the objectives of progress and prosperity, adding that none can do this job better than the religious scholars.

Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri made these remarks while addressing the Ulama-o-Mashaykh Convention held by Minhaj-ul-Quran Ulama Council at the central secretariat in Lahore. More than 500 religious scholars and senior students of the Islamic sciences attended the Convention. Allama Imdadullah Qadri, Allama Sayyid Farhat Hussain Shah, Allama Mir Asif Akbar, Allama Shahzad Ahmad Mujaddidi, Allama Mufti Muhammad Naeem Javed Noori, Allama Mufti Muhammad Irfanullah Ashrafi, Sayyid Ali Abid Mash’hadi and Sayyid Hidayat Rasool Shah addressed the Convention.

Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri said in his keynote speech that the basic teachings of Islam relate to formation of One Community. He said that sectarianism is the worst enemy of solidarity and unity among the Muslims. He said that linking factional difference of opinion with infidelity is reflection of ignorance. He said that Islam is a religion of peace that provides facility in life and talks about unity and solidarity. He said that Islam is religion for the eternity and its teachings are eternal too, stating that Allah Almighty has made the Islamic teachings comprehensive and universal.

‘Life is not static or stagnant. Rather it is subject to change and dynamism. The living nations learn from the transitions, turmoil and revolutions,’ he said.

Dr Qadri said that every knowledge has taken the shape of a science. The basis of the Islamic sciences is the welfare of the people without any discrimination. Therefore when anyone issues a fatwa or a decree, he/she should keep this aspect in mind. He said that if the element of flexibility in the Islamic law is ignored, then these laws will be confined to a particular era, group of people and region with the result that a human society will fail to evolve. He said that Islam is a religion of nature and is meant to guide the humanity till the Day of Judgment. He advised the religious scholars to keep themselves updated with the demands of the contemporary age.
