Minhaj Welfare Foundation telethon to raise funds for flood victims

In a telethon of MQI President Dr Hussain Mohi-ud-Din Qadri that he held for the support of flood victims in Pakistan, the people who joined the telethon have deposited Rs. 100 million in Pakistani currency. All the donors have deposited their contributions with the Minhaj Welfare Foundation.

These donations have come from the workers, associates and the life members of MQI living in the UK, USA, Canada, and other EU countries. The donors also pledged to continue helping the flood affected people until their complete rehabilitation.

Dr Hussain Mohi-ud-Din Qadri thanked the members of the Pakistani expatriate community and the MQI family for their valuable contributions and reposing their trust in Minhaj Welfare Foundation. He said that MWF has a vast experience of working in calamities, both nationally and internationally. He said that the tent settlements have been put up in South Punjab where the Foundation is providing the flood affectees with food, medicine and other essential items of use. He also said that Minhaj Education Society is establishing make-shift schools in the tent settlements to ensure the uninterrupted provision of education to the children of the flood-affected areas.

Dr Hussain Mohi-ud-Din Qadri said that the central MQI leaders and the workers and volunteers of MWF are present in the field taking part in rescue and relief activities. He said that MWF is performing its responsibility of serving the people in four districts of Punjab, three districts each of Sindh and KP and a few areas of Balochistan. He said that with the availability of more resources, the scale of relief operations will continue to expand. He said that the major challenge is the reconstruction of damaged houses, adding that MWF has worked out a comprehensive plan for the reconstruction of the houses.

The MQI President said that more than 33 million have been badly affected by the floods according to official statistics and the country has suffered a staggering loss of about $10 billion. He said that it is beyond the capacity of Pakistan’s weak economy to provide resources for such damages. He said that all segments of society, particularly traders, welfare organizations and citizens at large, will have to come forward and play their role. He said that the flood affectees are looking towards us and we have to assure them that they are not alone in this ordeal and that the whole nation is standing behind them.
