Islam is an advocate for a balanced way of life: Dr. Hussain Mohi-ud-Din Qadri

President of Minhaj-ul-Quran International, Professor Dr. Hussain Mohi-ud-Din Qadri, has stated that Islam teaches us to lead a balanced life, one that takes care of both worldly and spiritual needs. He said that the teachings of the Holy Prophet ﷺ emphasize that earning wealth is not inherently wrong as long as it does not affect one’s morals and faith. Materialism has dangerous effects; it turns humans self-centered, insensitive, and neglectful of others’ rights.

These thoughts were expressed by Dr. Hussain Mohi-ud-Din Qadri while addressing the Friday congregation at Jamy Sheikh-ul-Islam in Model Town.

Prof. Dr. Hussain Mohi-ud-Din Qadri further said that today, societal inequalities are increasing, relationships are weakening, and love and compassion have been replaced by jealousy and hatred. He said that those who discover their purpose in life continue to work hard without worrying about results.

"In Islam and Sufism, this state is referred to as Taqwa (piety) and Qana’at contentment). Almighty Allah has not created anyone in this universe without a purpose, though some individuals fail to understand their purpose. Everyone needs to recognize their purpose in life," he explained.

The MQI President said that unfortunately, in today’s era, the younger generation is caught up in a race focused solely on worldly gains. He said that neglecting the higher goals of life, we have concentrated solely on materialism. Spiritual values, ethics, and the essence of humanity are being ignored.

Prof. Dr. Hussain further remarked that our social circles disturb our thoughts, diverting us from our true purpose and involving us in trivial matters of the world. We all need to cultivate an awareness of the purpose of life. He said that human nature is influenced by circumstances, while instincts are ingrained by Allah from the beginning.

"When a person listens to their inner voice, they find their purpose in life. However, the nature that arises from circumstances often misleads individuals. Those blessed by Allah with an awareness of their purpose constantly engage in contemplation," he held forth on the subject.

He further added that once individuals become passionate about their purpose, they progress from the stage of Ilm-ul-Yaqeen (knowledge of certainty) to Ain-ul-Yaqeen vision of certainty). Dr. Hussain prayed for protection from the temptations of materialism and for the awareness to care for both worldly life and the afterlife.
