Prof. Dr. Hussain Mohi-ud-Din Qadri Meets SBP Governor to Discuss Pakistan’s Economic Challenges
Karachi: Prof. Dr. Hussain Mohi-ud-Din Qadri, President of Minhaj-ul-Quran International, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Governors at Minhaj University Lahore, and CEO of Al-Mawakhat Microfinance, met with the Governor of the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), Mr. Jameel Ahmad, at the State Bank Karachi headquarters. Also present in the meeting were Mr. Saleem Ullah, Deputy Governor of SBP; Syed Samar Hasnain, Executive Director, Development Finance Group (DFG); and Ms. Nighat Tanveer, Director Islamic Finance Development Department.
During the meeting, Dr. Hussain Qadri engaged in a detailed discussion with Mr. Jameel Ahmad and senior officials on Pakistan’s economic challenges, the just economic environment, debt burdens, promotion of Islamic finance in the country.
As a leading expert in economics and finance, Dr. Hussain Qadri emphasized the importance of promoting interest-free banking in Pakistan, strengthening Islamic financial institutions, and implementing Sharia-compliant economic policies. He highlighted that an interest-free financial system fosters economic justice and a stable, ethical financial environment.
He proposed practical solutions to reduce reliance on foreign loans and encouraged economic self-sufficiency, stressing that Pakistan’s growing debt burden is a major threat to national economic stability. Dr. Hussain Qadri advocated for self-reliance and investment as key strategies for sustainable economic growth. He also encouraged the establishment of a Waqf fund as a means to support economic development and financial stability.
Dr. Hussain Qadri also highlighted the necessity of increasing support to microfinance industry in Pakistan to expand local business opportunities, noting that fostering a business-friendly environment will boost economic stability and create employment opportunities. He also proposed key strategies for improving the economic environment in Pakistan.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Dr. Hussain Mohi-ud-Din Qadri and Governor Jameel Ahmad exchanged souvenirs as a token of appreciation and good will.
The meeting was also attended by Minhaj-ul-Quran Karachi’s Patron, Qazi Zahid Hussain, and President, Masood Ahmad Usmani.
