The Charter of Medina is a Practical Model for Multi-Religious Societies: Dr. Hassan Mohi-ud-Din Qadri
Addressing the Global Interfaith Harmony Conference as the keynote speaker at the United Nations Headquarters in Vienna, Dr. Hassan Mohi-ud-Din Qadri, Chairman of the Supreme Council of Minhaj-ul-Quran International, stated that the Charter of Medina and the administrative model of the State of Medina remain exemplary for multi-religious and multicultural societies even today.
He emphasized that global peace requires mutual respect for values and traditions. As the leader of the State of Medina, the Holy Prophet (PBUH) set a remarkable example of interfaith harmony. Not only did he (PBUH) establish treaties with representatives of various religions and tribes, but he (PBUH) also guaranteed them protection of life and property and the freedom to practice their religious values and traditions. Even today, valuable moral lessons can be derived from the Charter of Medina.
Dr. Hassan Mohi-ud-Din Qadri highlighted that the welcome extended to the Christian delegation from Najran in Medina and the treaty with Saint Catherine’s Monastery were outstanding examples of the Prophet's (PBUH) tolerance. He stated that the Prophet (PBUH) stood in respect for non-Muslims, and that the teachings of Islam have no connection with hatred, extremism, or intolerance.
The conference was attended by internationally renowned human rights representatives, education sector figures, and distinguished leaders from various fields, including Mr. Peter Haider, President of the Universal Peace Federation; Jordanian Ambassador H.E. Muhammad Samir Saleem Hindawi; Plain Alexander Reger, Head of the Interfaith Dialogue Forum; and Ms. Caroline Hungerländer, MD of the Institute for Environment, Peace, and Development.
The attendees highly appreciated Dr. Hassan Mohi-ud-Din Qadri’s speech on Islamic teachings in the context of interfaith harmony. As a gesture of goodwill, he presented his research book "The Constitution of Medina and the Concept of a Welfare State" to the conference participants for study.
