The week-long celebrations commence at COSIS
Speaking as the chief guest on the first day of the week-long celebration organized by Bazm-e-Minhaj at the College of Sharia and Islamic Sciences on the occasion of Shaykh-ul-Islam Dr. Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri’s 74th birthday, Professor Dr. Hussain Mohi-ud-Din Qadri emphasized that knowledge is the first step to progress and that students should dedicate every moment to studying books.
He highlighted that Shaykh-ul-Islam spent every moment of his life in study, research, and writing. Those who claim to love Shaykh-ul-Islam must act upon the teachings of the Quran and Sunnah, establish regular prayers, and avoid gatherings that waste time and harm faith. He stressed that Sheikh-ul-Islam devoted his entire life to refining character and ethics.
Renowned analyst and columnist Orya Maqbool Jan, in his speech, stated that a believer’s heart cannot be devoid of love for the Quran. He noted that Allama Iqbal deeply studied the Quran, which is why his poetry is filled with wisdom and depth. Through the Quran, Iqbal learned the love of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
He advised the youth to recite the Quran alongside their academic engagements and gain mastery over the Arabic language, as the Quran provides guidance for every aspect of life. He expressed his happiness that Shaykh-ul-Islam Dr. Tahir-ul-Qadri is focusing on Quranic understanding and that his works on the sciences of the Quran are a scholarly treasure.
Chairman of the Arabic Department at Punjab University, Dr. Hamid Ashraf Hamdani, remarked that Minhaj University has rendered excellent services in the field of knowledge and practice. He described such institutions as a realization of the dreams of the forefathers and advised students that action is the essence of knowledge.
Director of Iranian Cultural Center, Dr. Asghar Ali Masoudi, stated that the Holy Quran is a guiding light whose brilliance has never faded. It is a beacon of guidance. He lamented that the Muslim Ummah is facing decline and backwardness due to its detachment from the Quran. He emphasized that the Quran teaches unity and consensus, which are among the greatest blessings of Allah.
World-renowned Qari Ali Akbar Toubchi, who had come from Tehran, recited the Quran and spiritually enlightened the hearts of the attendees.
The event also featured speeches from Dr. Mumtaz-ul-Hassan Barvi, Principal of the College of Sharia, and Sohail Ahmed Raza, Director of Interfaith Relations.
On the first day of the celebrations, a Quran Recitation Competition was held, where Kashif Butt, a student of the College of Sharia, secured first position, Ayesha Hanif Qadri won second place, and Ali Hussain secured third place.
In the Arabic Speech Competition, Hafiz Maimoona won first place, Muhammad Hassan came in second, and Hammad Mustafa Qadri secured third place.
The event was attended by Dr. Shabbir Ahmed Jami, Dr. Shafqat Ali Baghdadi, Mujeeb-ur-Rehman Malik, Sabir Hussain Naqshbandi, Muhammad Mohibullah Azhar, and other faculty members.
President of Bazm-e-Minhaj, Muhammad Faiz-ul-Mustafa, welcomed the guests in his opening remarks. General Secretary Abdul Muizz, Vice President Hamid Mustafa Abbasi, and other office bearers were also present at the occasion.
