PAT terms present electoral system as mother of all problems

The political forces that call for early elections, want elections to be held on time and look forward to taking part in elections on the slogan of change respectively will end up offering nothing new to the masses except disappointment and more misery to the people. These political parties will cut a sorry in the long run, for they draw their strength from the present corrupt electoral system, which is the real enemy of the people. No change could come about without bringing about fundamental and drastic reforms in the way people elect their representatives.

These views were expressed by PAT President Faiz-ur-Rehman Durrani while addressing a seminar on the subject of “Real change but how” in Lahore today.

He said that the present system concentrated economic and political power in a few hands to the detriment of the masses. The political fault lines along tribal ethnic, caste and linguistic lines were so acute that no change could be expected.
