Public welfare was the core of the Constitution of Medina: Chairman Supreme Council
Speaking at the seminar arranged by Kohat District Bar Association, Dr. Hassan Mohi-ud-Din Qadri, Chairman of the MQI Supreme Council, emphasized that continuous pursuit of knowledge and education prevents stagnation in Islamic thought. He explained that the Charter of Medina was not merely a treaty but the first written constitution in human history, crafted through the wisdom and insight of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). This constitution secured the lost rights of the people of Medina and its tribes.
Dr. Hassan Mohi-ud-Din Qadri further stated that had the 63-article Charter of Medina not existed, it would have faced opposition from the Quraysh in Mecca. This constitution was not a reflection of any ancient civilization; it was the first written document aimed at welfare and public service. The Prophet (PBUH) united various tribes and religions under a common nation and state, establishing equality of rights, decentralization of power, protection of women's rights, and an independent judicial system.
The Chairman Supreme Council noted that in the state of Medina, the rights of slaves and non-Muslims were equal. The Prophet (PBUH) established an independent judicial system, created provincial secretariats, and formed various ministries. Housing, salaries, and other benefits were provided to government officials, with a strict accountability system against corruption.
In his concluding remarks, Dr. Hassan Mohi-ud-Din Qadri stated that Pakistan’s progress is only possible when a system of equality and equal rights is implemented. Once such a system is established, the country will be on a path to prosperity.
