Islam Emphasizes Social and Economic Justice: Dr. Hussain Qadri
The number of people living below the poverty line is increasing: President of Minhaj-ul-Quran International
Steps like the "Mawakhat-e-Madina" initiative are needed to uplift those in need, says Dr. Hussain Qadri
The President of Minhaj-ul-Quran International and CEO of "Al-Mawakhat," Professor Dr. Hussain Mohi-ud-Din Qadri, has stated that Islam emphasizes social and economic justice, yet the number of people living below the poverty line is rising. He said that economic issues are the root of all problems, and without addressing them, the dream of a peaceful and balanced society cannot be realized.
Dr Hussain Mohi-ud-Din Qadri highlighted that after the migration to Madinah, the Holy Prophet (PBUH) prioritized the economic rehabilitation and welfare of financially struggling individuals and introduced the concept of economic brotherhood. Under his guidance, affluent individuals shared their resources with those in need, a noble practice that became known as "Mawakhat-e-Madina."
Dr. Qadri emphasized that Minhaj-ul-Quran has been actively working at both intellectual and practical levels for the dignified economic rehabilitation of individuals. He asserted that struggling for financial stability is an act of worship.
He further noted that for the first time in Pakistan's history, MQI has proposed changes in the system of Zakat distribution. Islam’s economic system promotes self-reliance, but the current Zakat distribution method is turning recipients into perpetual dependents. Instead, Zakat funds should be used to establish small businesses and provide vocational training.
"If the number of Zakat recipients increases every year instead of decreasing, it means the objectives of Zakat distribution are not being met, which is a matter of serious concern," he added.
Speaking at the inauguration of the Mawakhat Microfinance Company's branch in Karachi, Dr. Qadri announced that the platform will provide financial assistance to middle-class and needy individuals for starting their own businesses. He emphasized that promoting small businesses is essential for creating job opportunities and driving economic growth.
The inaugural ceremony was attended by Muhammad Masood Usmani, Dr. Saleem Ashraf, Amjad Ali, Jameel-ur-Rehman Khan (Joint Director of the State Bank of Pakistan), Muhammad Islam Ahmed, Nauman Abdul Majeed, Iqbal Mustafavi, Hafiz Imran, and Naveed Alam.
