PAT stands for reforms before elections
Pakistan Awami Tehreek has drawn a clear line between the oppressed and the oppressors. The politicians, who have been getting elected for last 65 years under the present system, have used the public mandate to fraudulently increase their resources and firm up their grip on levers of power. The people continue to remain robbed of basic necessities of life and have been exposed to skyrocketing inflation, terrorism, energy crisis, and deteriorating law and order situation. The insecurity faced by the people has failed to move the politicians who are busy in preparing for upcoming elections in total disregard to public grievances. In this political environment, PAT is the only political party, which is talking of rights of the people and highlighting their problems. It has made people aware of what Articles 62 and 63 stood for.
PAT’s Secretary General Khurram Nawaz Gundapur expressed these views while talking to office holders of provincial executive council in the party’s secretariat. Bashrat Jaspal, Fayyaz Warriach, MH Shaheen Advocate, Ch Afzal Gujjar and others were present on the occasion.
Khurram Nawaz Gunapur said that it was important to make people of what was right and what wrong to save the country from breaking down and putting it on trajectory of sustainable socio-economic growth. He said that had the Election Commission fixed 30-day scrutiny period for pre-poll clearance of candidates and implemented Articles 62 and 63 in letter and spirit, it would have served to cleanse politics of corrupt elements. He said that the entire struggle of PAT revolved around the agenda of people’s welfare.
PAT’s Secretary General said that the workers of PAT and thousands of people who were disgruntled with the present electoral system would stage sit-ins in over 300 cities of the country on the polling day. He added that these sit-ins were only meant to record disapproval of the system and were in no way aimed at disrupting balloting. He said that the sit-ins were being held as per the Supreme Court’s judgment of June 8, 2012. He said that PAT would change the people’s awareness into revolutionary power under the dynamic leadership of Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri within the confines of law, constitution and democracy. He said that PAT stood for introduction of reforms before the elections could be held.
