PAT fears Protection of Pakistan Law to be abused to target its workers
PAT central President Dr Raheeq Ahmad Abbasi has revealed that the rulers have made a plan to abuse Protection of Pakistan Law (PPL) to target, apprehend and crush PAT workers and file cases against them on terrorism charges in order to stop the way of revolution. He said that the biggest proof of this mindset was that they got FIR registered against PAT workers under Anti-Terrorism Act after killing 14 workers and injuring over 100 of them in Model Town on June 17.
PAT President expressed these views while addressing PAT workers from Faisalabad division at the party’s secretariat. Rafique Najam, Qazi Faiz-ul-Islam, Jawad Hamid, Hanif Mustafvi, Iftikhar Shah Bokhari, Hanif Mustafvi and Sajid Mahmood Bhatti were also present at the occasion.
Dr Raheeq Abbasi said that the government wanted to use Protection of Pakistan Law to victimize the political opponents, adding that the PAT workers were on their hit list. He said that the rulers had given the authority to order firing on protesters to a grade 15 officer which would trigger mayhem. He said that provision of keeping a citizen under detention for 60 days on the basis of mere suspicion without any warrant was against the law and the fundamental freedoms as enshrined in the Constitution. He said that the smart strategy employed by N League succeeded in fooling other political parties into signing the draconian bill into law. He, however, added that such devious and negative tactics would not stop the march of revolution, adding that a system of government based on oppression, coercion and abuse of power was set to be eliminated soon.
