Electoral system not to change with induction of new CEC: Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri

Commenting on selection of new Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), PAT chief Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri has said that the rigged, fraudulent and comprised electoral system would not change with the induction of new CEC. He said that the Election Commission should be reconstituted as per procedure laid down in the Constitution. He said that in the presence of old four ECP members, there is little the new fifth member will be able to do, adding that despite being a head, he is merely one amongst other four equals. He said that it is not possible to put a plug on rigging without sending the old members home and bringing in a new electoral system.

Dr Qadri made these remarks while talking to his media advisor from a hospital in Houston yesterday. He said that the forces of the status quo are employing new tactics to make sure that old system stays intact, for their interests are wedded to constitution of the old order. He said that unless the whole system is transformed, nothing would change in the country.

Condemning the brutal action of police on the visually impaired persons in Lahore, Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri said that Punjab police knows that even if they riddle the bodies of 14 people with live bullets and injure 90 people in broad day-light, they will be able to get away with their actions; rather they would get a pat on their back from the rulers. He said that had the accused nominated in the Model Town tragedy been meted out punishment in accordance with law, such heart-rending incident as torture on the blind would not have taken place.

He said that Punjab police and rulers protecting them are the cause of Pakistan’s defamation around the world. He said that the rulers who are giving statements of having consulted PAT on constitution of JIT should be afraid of God, adding that there is a limit to lying. He said that he would undergo angiography on Tuesday. The workers, well-wishers and the masses should pray for recovery, he concluded.
