Multi-pronged strategy needed against terrorism: Shaykh-ul-Islam Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

Condemning the deadly terrorist incident that razed a CID building in Karachi in which around 30 people lost their lives and many more got critically injured, Shaykh-ul-Islam Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri has said that the unending wave of terrorism seems to be a grave conspiracy to destabilize Pakistan. He asked the government to take immediate and serious steps for the eradication of terrorism, extremism and target killing in the country so that the feeling of insecurity among the people that has got entrenched by the day could be eliminated.

Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri expressed these views while talking to Naib Nazim-e-Ala G.M. Malik on telephone the other day. Raja Jamil Ajmal, Jawad Hamid, Shahid Latif, Iftikhar Bokhari, Sayyid Farhat Hussain Shah and Sajid Mahmood Bhatti were also present on the occasion.

He said that Karachi, the financial hub of Pakistan, has been a witness to the worst wave of bloodshed, which knows no ending in the absence of a befitting response by the government. He said that recurring incidents of terrorism have forced people to think whether they were living in a human society or in a world of beasts where human life is ripped up and blood is shed like water.

Underlining the role of people in stemming terrorism, Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri said that they need to keep a strict watch in their neighbourhoods and establish local peace committees in this regard. “Effective steps need to be taken both at individual and collective levels to put an end to terrorism in the country. It calls for greater and improved intelligence sharing, robust coordination among the state agencies and above all sustained political will. We should not bow before the handful of extremists,” he added. He also asked religious scholars, professors, journalists, intellectuals and opinion leaders to come forward and wage intellectual struggle to defeat the forces of doom and gloom. “It is going to be a long haul but our determination must be even greater to succeed and succeed we must for the sake of the future of Pakistan, he concluded.”
