PAT demands withdrawal of power tariff

S.M. Zameer, President of Pakistan Awami Tehreek Sindh, has vehemently criticized the price hike in power tariffs by whopping Rs. 6 and dubbed it as an action aimed at taking away from people their right to life. He demanded of the government to withdraw the hike in the larger interest of people. He said that the recurring and periodic hike in power tariffs in the name of fuel adjustment surcharge would further push people down the poverty path and add to skyrocketing dearness and inflation.

S.M. Zameer expressed these views while addressing the central executive committee of Pakistan Awmai Tehreek held at the party secretariat in Lahore. PAT President Faiz-ur-Rehman Durrani, Secretary General Anwar Akhtar Advocate, Secretary Information Qazi Faiz-ul-Islam, PAT Punjab President Lehrasiab Gondal, General Secretary Punjab M.H. Shaheen, and other central and provincial leaders were also present in the meeting.

S.M. Zameer said that a government that has come into power in the name of welfare of people is duty bound to work out policies for their wellbeing. He said that the ruling elite was responsible for the economic mess the country was caught up in as they failed to bail it out through sound economic management.

S.M. Zameer said that there was a need of bringing about reforms in the electoral system of the country so that people could be empowered to make independent and informed decisions. He said that the country could progress if the electoral system threw up competent leadership.
