Dr Raheeq Abbasi gets highest award
Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri has conferred “Nishan-e-Minhaj Award” on Dr Raheeq Ahmad Abbasi in recognition of his meritorious services as Secretary General of Minhaj-ul-Quran International. The Patron-in-Chief of MQI and PAT made this announcement in a high-powered meeting he presided in the central secretariat the other day.
Dr Abbasi was appointed the Secretary General of MQI on March 17, 2003. He served on this prestigious and challenging position for ten years, the longest period by any office holder in the 32-year history of MQI. His period of service is also significant in the sense that he led the organization at a time when Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri was not present in Pakistan due to his scholarly and intellectual pursuits abroad.
Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri paid tribute to the leadership of Dr Abbasi and conferred the award to acknowledge his services and contributions to the cause of MQI.
It is pertinent to mention here that Dr Abbasi holds a PhD degree in computer sciences from Oxford University London. He started his organizational career from MYL in Rawalpindi/Islamabad and made his way up to the prestigious post of MQI’s Secretary General. He also served as Personal Assistant to Shaykh-ul-Islam for some time. He is President of Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) these days.
The workers and leaders of various forums of MQI have felicitated PAT President on this award.
