Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri demands checking of votes by an independent global commission
Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri, the leader of Pakistan Awami Tehreek, has demanded that electoral results of about 40-50 constituencies of the provinces should be got verified by an independent, neutral global commission instead of NADRA so that the reality of rigging in elections 2013 could be exposed to the people of Pakistan. He said that NADRA had identified instances of rigging in a few constituencies, adding that handing over the responsibility of verifying the electoral votes in other constituencies solely to NARA would be a grave mistake. He said that it was possible that NADRA could put its seal of approval on the authenticity of election results in other constituencies in order to save its credibility from being questioned. He said that the independent global commission should be composed of representatives from NGOs, political parties and NADRA.
Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri expressed these views while telephonically addressing a meeting of executive council of Pakistan Awami Tehreek (Punjab chapter) from London yesterday. President PAT (Punjab) Bisharat Aziz Jaspal, Mushtaq Nonari, Tanvir Ahmad Khan, Mian Zahid Javed, and other leaders were also present on the occasion.
Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri said that the ruling elite had usurped power in Pakistan and that it was not concerned about the interests of the state and society. He said that the powerful people wanted to provide economic security to their children for 100 years. He said that change was inevitable and it was not possible for anyone to stop it anymore. He said that the ruling elite did nothing in the last 66 years but to postpone change in the country. He said that the people of Pakistan were being pushed against the wall and the spanners were being thrown in the works of constructive and positive criticism.
Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri said that rulers, both past and present, were devoid of vision and did not know how to plan for the good of the nation. He said that corrupt political system would have to be sent packing to pave the way for change in the country. He said that the current political system is salt mine in which even the diamond lost its identity after some time. He said that revolution was the destiny of this nation and the people were preparing for it. He said that this phase would not take long as to allow the situation to become irreversible. He said that we would give sufficient time to the government so that the people could see the performance of the government they voted into power. He said that PAT was keeping a close eye on the prevailing state of affairs. He said that it was determined to change the destiny of the people despite heavy odds pitted against it. He said that we would not rest till Pakistan became honorable, prosperous and politically stable country on the map of the world.
