Government and opposition must share responsibility to resolve people's problems
Dr Raheeq Ahmad, Nazim-e-Ala of Minhaj-ul-Quran International, has said that the country has fallen victim to political and economic crises due to clash of institutions. Only people and the country happen to be the causality in this tug of war. It is the responsibility of the government to implement the decision of the Supreme Court. The ruling elite consisting of a few hundred families have made the country and its people hostage. For the issues of governance to be settled, it is important that national institutions avert their clash and work within their constitutional domains. Both the government and opposition have to share responsibility to resolve people's problems.
Dr Raheeq Ahmad Abbasi expressed these views while answering various questions after attending the luncheon given in his honour by the senior students of Minhaj University. He said that the government's silence on the NRO verdict is pregnant with lethal implications for the country. It is high time we rose above personal agenda and thought of future of our country.
He warned that a mix of load-shedding, unemployment and corruption was threatening the system but the rulers seemed to have different priorities. He said the opposition’s silence over lack of governance is equally condemnable. He said that it is people's continued support for a system which is a guarantee for its longevity but both the government and opposition seem interested in pursuing petty politics at the cost of larger national issues. He said that Pakistan has hub of problems. If the problems were not resolved at the earliest, the flood of public anger would sweep everything away.
