PAT emphasizes restraint & maturity to deal with crises
Faiz-ur-Rehman Durrani, president of Pakistan Awami Tehreek, has said that political wrangling and ongoing wave of terrorism are the major threats to political and economic stability of the country. He said that those plunging the country into instability and crisis were very powerful people and it was incumbent on the political leaderships to exercise restraint and wisdom to stem the march of the country into abyss. He said that anti-Pakistan forces wanted to put her in the list of the failed states in the league of Somalia, Sudan and Afghanistan. ‘Urgent measures are needed at this critical juncture to save the country. Our motherland ill-affords to face new crises. It calls for restraint and statesmanship,’ he said.
Faiz-ur-Rehman Durrani expressed these views while talking to a PAT delegation that called on him at his office in Lahore this afternoon. Anwar Akhtar Advocate, Jawad Hamid, Qazi Faiz-ul-Islam and other leaders were also present on the occasion. PAT President said that political disputes should be negotiated through reconciliation in the larger national interests because we are not in a position to get embroiled in any other problem. He said that all state institutions should work within their constitutional domains and respect the mandate of each other. “It is high time we strengthened institutions and not personalities. The culture of tolerance needs to be promoted for restoration of true democracy in the country,” he opined.
Faiz-ur-Rehman Durrani said that if institutions got strengthened, Constitution would become supreme in the real sense. The country can fight against the scourge of terrorism, he maintained, if it was politically and economically stable. He said that there is a need to work in harmony and promote national unity to achieve the purpose.
