Spiritualism essential for defeating extremism: Shaykh-ul-Islam Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

Shaykh-ul-Islam Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri has said that our societal problems and lack of contentment owe themselves to a culture of rat race and unrestrained materialism. Spiritualism, he said, is an essential component of a healthy and balanced society. As long as man continues to ignore this important lesson, he would remain clueless and ignorant of essence of life. It calls for purgation of heart and enlightenment of inner self.

Shaykh-ul-Islam expressed these views while addressing a spiritual gathering organized by Directorate of Dawa of MQI through video conferencing. He said that an attitude of persisting with the good enables man to work for betterment and reform of society and it is through internal purgation that he can understand the reality of servitude to Allah Almighty. This, he added, is possible if one participates in spiritual gatherings.

Bemoaning the fact that society is not in pursuit of moral values, he said that the worldly desires have become our ultimate destination and hence this immoderation and lack of contentment. He said that if the society is structured on piety and good, its individuals start doing good things through reflex action. “If one feels like doing good things and being good to society, one must think that one’s Creator is pleased. The fight against extremism and terrorism cannot be won without propagating the attitudes of enlightenment and generosity. This is possible if we resort to spiritualism as our sheet-anchor,” he concluded.
