Present system responsible for the killing of pensioners: PAT

Faiz-ur-Rehman Durrani, president of Pakistan Awami Tehreek, has said that in a country where individuals are stronger than the institutions, the people have little access to justice system there and the Constitution is treated no more but as a piece of paper. The killer of the old pensioners is the present electoral system, which has even snatched from people their right to life as well. The suo moto notice of the horrible incident taken by the Supreme Court of Pakistan is a welcome step but why is to that the authorities are moved into action once the water has flown under the bridge and many precious human lives have been lost? Corruption has rendered the foundations of the country hollow and the statement of the Chief Justice of Pakistan that there is no system of accountability in the country serves to expose the hollowness of our incumbent political system.

President of Pakistan Awami Tehreek Faiz-ur-Rehman Durrani expressed these views while talking to a delegation of lawyers who called on him in his office today. The delegation was led by Mr. Lehrasub Khan Gondal, Presidne of Pakistan Awami Tehreek Punjab chapter.

Faiz-ur-Rehman Durrani bemoaned the fact that our society does not protect the rights of the pensioners, which gives one an idea of the priorities of the ruling elite. He said that an assistance of few hundred thousand rupees after death has become a standard practice, while the millions of people have been pushed against the wall and compelled to live a miserable life. He asked the people to stand up against the present corrupt electoral system, which gives birth to a paralyzed parliament. He said that people would see no light at the end of tunnel in the present system, while 3% of the ruling elite would continue to play havoc with their lives.

PAT President said that the public awareness campaign launched by PAT would end up delivering the masses from the clutches of the oppressive system. He said that people needed to come forward and play their due role at both individual and collective levels to make this possible.
