Services of Dr Ruth Pfau remembered
Minhaj-ul-Quran Interfaith Relations organized a memorial ceremony at the central secretariat in the honour of Pakistan’s Mother Teresa, Dr Ruth Pfau. The purpose of holding the ceremony was to pay homage to her services for the suffering humanity. Candles were lit on the occasion to mark her highly appreciable role for the leprosy patients.
Addressing the ceremony, Sohail Ahmad Raza said that the Pakistani nation can never forget the exemplary services of Dr Ruth Pfau. He said that the way she served the patients of leprosy patients with complete dedication, her name will be remembered for times to come. He said that we, at Minhaj-ul-Quran International, pay our rich tributes to Dr Ruth Pfau for her services to the humanity without any discrimination of caste, creed and colour. In her death, the country has been deprived of a lover of humanity and a great doctor and even greater human being, he said. He expressed his condolences to the members of the Christian community and Catholic Church over her sad demise.
Sohail Ahmad Raza said that Dr Ruth Pfau visited Pakistan as a member of missionary delegation from West Germany in 1960. She dedicated herself to the service of the patients suffering from leprosy and was instrumental in ridding Pakistan of this disease, which was no less than a milestone. She was honoured with the title of ‘Mother Teresa of Pakistan’ and many other top-ranking awards of the country.
The leaders of the Christian and Hindu communities attended the ceremony and appreciated the services of Dr Pfau. They said that a huge void has been created due to death of Dr Ruth Pfau. Meanwhile, Sohail Ahmad Raza called Archbishop of Karachi and condoled with him over the death of Dr Ruth Pfau. He also paid rich tributes to the late.
