Proactive role of Ulama a must to create harmony: Khurram Nawaz Gundapur
General law and order situation in the country and particularly in Karachi and Quetta has deteriorated to such an extent that the more concern is expressed on it, the less. Blood of many innocent people has been shed in the streets of these cities with daily bomb blast occurring and target killing continuing unabated while law enforcement agencies look on helplessly. The killers are on the loose and the perpetrators of these horrible crimes have yet to be apprehended and meted out punishments. The government lacks the ability to discharge its fundamental duty of maintaining law and order and protecting the life and property of its citizens. Situation has come to such a sorry pass that even foreign tourists are not being spared. Things will not improve with a complacent mindset. There is a need to understand criticality of situation and work out policies accordingly in consultation with all stakeholders.
Khurram Nawaz Gundapur, Secretary General of Pakistan Awami Tehreek, expressed these views during his meetings with delegations of religious scholars from Multan, Khanawal and Mian Channu that called on him in his office in Lahore. He said that Ulama had great responsibility on their shoulders in promoting sectarian harmony and removing hatred. He said that they needed to come forward by breaking silence and educate masses about real teachings of Islam and commonalities among various sects. He said that MQI and PAT provided them effective forums to create harmony and foster mutual respect in the country.
