UN needs immediate reform: Hussain Mohi-ud-Din Qadri
Hussain Mohi-ud-Din Qadri, president of Federal Council of Minhaj-ul-Quran International, has appreciated European Union’s demand of inquiry into the Israeli attack on the ‘Peace Flotilla’, which killed scores of people and injured many more. He said that unless brutish actions of Israel were checked, Tel Aviv would continue to play foul with the international laws and conventions. ‘Peace Flotilla’ was carrying relief goods and had representation of followers of all religions and faiths of the world including the Jews. He said that the purpose of the journey was already publicized and there was no point Israel could attack the ship under any pretext.
Hussain Mohi-ud-Din deplored the attitude of the big power that fell short of manifestly condemning the action. He said that such an attitude of indifference on the part of those who were entrusted with the task of preserving the international order was dangerous for the global peace. He also applauded the UN Secretary General’s demand of holding an inquiry into the event. However, he stressed the UN to play more proactive role and disallow any state to play havoc with its charter. ‘The UN is in an acute need of reform so that balance of power is democratized and more administrative freedom is conferred on the world body to deal with emerging challenges,’ he emphasized.
Hussain Mohi-ud-Din Qadri said that after the demise of bipolar world, the world was facing unique challenges that required creative solutions but the international arrangements were either inadequate or powerless to meet the demands. He said that such festering political disputes as Palestine and Kashmir are the major cause of terrorism and only strengthened the hands of extremists who invoked the ‘injustice’ being meted out to the Muslims around the globe.
